A film about co-existence and understanding, Of a Feather follows the majestic and notorious urban gull as it navigates life alongside residents of the cities and towns along the West coast of Scotland and beyond.

Biography

A Glasgow-based filmmaker with a background of 12 years in multimedia production at The Guardian, Marissa Keating has worked in Scotland for over 15 years as a producer/director (and sometimes self-shooter), working alongside the Scottish Documentary Institute, LUX Scotland, and BBC Scotland. Films she has directed and produced have been screened nationally and internationally at festivals, including EIFF, IDFA, Big Sky LSFF, Berlin Shorts, Doc NYC, Braziers, ReFrame and An/Other festival and broadcast on BBC2 and BBC4. Her work has secured support and funding from LUX Scotland, BBC Arts, and The Scottish Documentary Institute. Of a Feather is her first feature documentary.


The Gulls

Commonly perceived as an invasive species, Lesser Black Backed and Herring Gulls are in fact on the amber and red list. Despite their maligned status, the Gull’s extraordinary resilience and adaptability as a 23-million-year-old species has much to teach us, particularly at this critical moment of ecological and environmental change.
